Algún día las raíces, Alejandro Valdeavellano (Chile, 2024)
Algún día las raíces is a fictional account of a real, young Mapuche man killed by a policeman while trying to encourage his people to recover their ancestral lands. Matías Catrileo Quezada journeyed through various Mapuche communities in an effort to convince them to recover territories that the Chilean government had taken from them. During the trip, he discovers that the police are following him and one of his friends is feeding them information. In spite of it all, he continues courageously with his plan. In addition to denouncing the Chilean conflict in Mapuche lands, the film is an act of memory and resistance, and a reflection on the search for identity, both of the individual and the indigenous community.
Film will be screened in original version with subtitles in Spanish.
A film in the 2024 edition of IndieFest, Barcelona Indigenous Film Festival.
