À ma soeur!, Catherine Breillat (France, 2001)

Anaïs carries the weight of the world on her 12-year-old shoulders. Her body is both a temple of pain and a fortress. Hunched in defense or plain ignored, she observes. It is summer. The beach. Family vacation. Summer romance. Initiation, therefore, and first love. Immured in the chrysalis of her weight, Anaïs undergoes this rite of passage by proxy, observing her beloved (and hated) older sister, her chimerical alter ego, her imago.

An incendiary and at the same time empathetic film about female sexual discovery, with two sisters obsessed with losing their virginity.

Film will be screened in original version (French) with Catalan subtitles. 

Catherine Breillat

This year's retrospective at the D'A film Festival is dedicated to the brilliant and transgressive French director Catherine Breillat whose electric and evocative new film L'Été dernier (France, 2023) will be screened alongside a selection of her films.

Breillat is one of the great references of contemporary erotic cinema. Her work abounds with an incisive and epidermal look at sex and its aspects. Her filmography goes from luminous comedies to sordid thrillers. She has directed fifteen films, many of which have been part of the official sections of Cannes, Berlin and Chicago, where she won the Golden Hugo award for Best Film for À ma soeur!
